I remember when I was a kid one of my favorite “toys” was a magnifying glass. It was fun to hold it just right, see the sun’s rays come to a point and burn a hole in a pieces of paper (or whatever bug happened by). What a lot of kids did not realize (in addition to the possibilities of starting fires), was that they were harnessing the power of the sun to produce a type of energy (in this case heat).
